Studio Policies

Lesson Location

Lessons held via Zoom will have the best quality in a quiet area with consistent internet connection. Students are responsible for providing that environment. Spaces can include: a parked car, a closet, a bedroom, or a music practice room.

The student is responsible for providing appropriate audio and visual equipment for an online lesson. Most built-in features for tablets, phones, and computers work well.

In-studio lessons are available to clients 18+ at our Logan Square studio.

In-home lessons are available to clients that provide a quiet room, a keyboard, and a place to plug in a laptop computer charger. Only available to clients within 2.5 miles of our Logan Square studio. Adjusted rates for teacher travel apply.

Online lessons offer a different and convenient experience for learners - benefits can include student comfort in a familiar space, no or minimal travel time, and the same quality instruction and attention with your teacher.

Billing

Account balances are due 24 hours before the start of the client's first lesson of the month.

Account payments accepted: Zelle, Venmo, or CashApp. Reach out to Kara if none of these options work for you.

Lesson time will be considered forfeit if the client does not pay account balances 24 hours before the start of the first lesson of the month.

Rooted Music and Voice will send out account balance reminders by the first day of the month.

Introductory lessons at the 50%-off rate can be rescheduled once, after which the session will be considered a full-price lesson.

Prices are subject to change without prior notice.

Attendance

Lessons are available in-person or via Zoom, pending availability of both parties.

Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before your lesson starts.

Lessons can be rescheduled within a week of the cancelled lesson if the client gives at least 24 hours prior notice.

Lessons cancelled by the client with less than 24 hours prior notice will be billed regularly.

Lessons will be considered cancelled if the client is more than 20 minutes late with no notice.

If your teacher needs to cancel, your teacher will offer reschedule times within a week of the cancelled lesson.

Lessons cancelled and cannot be rescheduled within a week will result in a lesson credit that lasts for 30 days.

For safety reasons, lessons are not allowed while either party is driving. If a client is in the car while in a lesson, the car must be put in park and the engine turned off. If the client is driving during the lesson, the teacher will end the call immediately and the lesson will be considered forfeit.

Setting Expectations

Growth is most often non-linear in voice work. It may take time to see results. More growth is often associated with consistent practice.

Clients are responsible for supplying their own lyrics and sheet music when applicable. Your teacher has an extensive music library, hard copies and digital copies. Students will format and provide their own written materials.

If a client is using sheet music, it is the client’s responsibility to provide the teacher with a pdf copy or hard copy of the sheet music before the lesson starts.

A 45 minute session includes transition time and a few moments for writing notes. For example - a 45 minute lesson could include 40-42 minutes of contact/teaching and 3-5 minutes of notes/transition between lessons.

By scheduling a lesson with Rooted Music and Voice, you understand that the instructor or the studio are not responsible for any voice or body use which may lead to the need of medical attention. The student is solely responsible and liable for any injury or potential harm that may occur.

By scheduling a lesson with Rooted Music and Voice, you understand that the instructor cannot and will not force the student to take the time to practice. They can only encourage the student to do as so. It is solely up to the student to take what they learn and apply it to their normal routine, to take time to practice, and to make the most out of their own sessions.
